4.0 out of 5 A good Epilator., 30th May 2010

Review By Ric03

I've used several epilators, ranging in quality. My current Philips one being the best and that's why I chose this. This compares well and is at least as good as anything else I have used.

If you've never used one before, then they will take some getting used to. It's similar to waxing. Though I find epilation to be less of a hassle. The best way is to shave first and then let it grow a little 2-3 days before trying epilation. That way it doesn't feel as uncomfortable. That's how I started off. It's true, they do prickle, but it's not too nasty. This comes with a separate head supposed to be to help you get used to epilatiors. I didn't like it as it just took longer, might be good way to start though if you find it too uncomfortable.

The unit itself is nice and is powerful. The wide head makes it slightly quicker to use than my current epilator though this isn't a major difference. You still have to go up and down several times to get it smooth. Its got two speed settings which is good, as you can slow it down for sensitive areas. Neither of the other heads did much for me. The other stuff felt a bit gimicky, such as tweezers that light up (I do have lightbulbs in my house). The bag is just a cheap bag and not luxurious as described.

The instructions aren't great, but you can figure it all out yourself. Other than that, this is a perfectly good epilator and priced about the same as I paid for my other Philips 2 years ago which is still going strong. It won't perform miracles but it will do a good job.

Lisa.

5.0 out of 5 The holy grail of epilators..., 26th May 2010

Review By Amanda (United Kingdom)

I'll start by being honest; Epilators aren't meant to be pain free. It's basically mechanic tweezers, so you have to expect some pain, despite any gimics the companies throw at you.

Now for the good news; The Philips SATIN PERFECT really is a lot less painful and quicker then the other half-dozen epilators I've tried. Yes, it still stings a bit, but you will become tolerant to it, and will hardly notice it after a full uses.

So why does this hurt less?

This is because the epilator has an extra-wide head. This sounds like that'd mean it'd hurt more, but as it's faster then most other epilators, as well have having attachments to help lift hairs away from the skin and to massage your skin, it is more or less pain-free. I don't have to keep running it over & over the same area, as a wider head = it covers a larger area. Another simple yet effective feature is the built in light, that's help you see any hair you've missed.

In fact, it's so much gentler then other epilators I've also tried it on my underarms, bikini line & face.

Yes; this did hurt more, but it was still do-able.

If you're nervous about using it on more sensitive areas, you can remove the epilating head & attach the (included) razor + trimmer head.

As well as the epilator, caps, and razor head you also get a fantastic pair of tweezers. Tweezers are just tweezers aren't they?

Nope. These tweezers have a light in between the prongs to help you see the finer hairs. You can use the tweezers anywhere.

The hairs begin to grow back after nearly a fortnight with me. They are so fine when they do grow back; if you're in a rush for work etc you could just wear skin tone tights. Noone will be able to tell you're having an `off' day!

When the hairs regrow it'll be at different speeds, so it's really just a case of touching up now and then. As its just a few hairs at a time, it doesn't hurt at all.

I find epilating a lot preferable to waxing; you don't need to wait a few weeks for the hair to grow long enough for the wax to be able to pick it up & besides, I think that this hurts less. Plus; You won't cut yourself, like with razors. Isn't that annoying? Having to shave every other day, the nicking your leg so you have to cover up anyway?

Finally; While the SATIN PERFECT isn't the cheapest epilator available, it is much less painful and quicker then the other half dozen I've used. Also; consider how much you send on waxing, razors & shaving foam over time.

5.0 out of 5 Very Effective, 25th May 2010

Review By M. G. Chisholm "chiefengineer3" (UK)

I have this for my daughter who at 18 is slap bang in the group likely to use this. My wife already has an older one she bought last year, which means I have a good comparison. The effectiveness is judged by my daughter - along with the pain, although for test purposes I compared using this one against my wife's older one on the back of my hand because I was curious, given the screams when "She who must be obeyed," uses hers.

Firstly, it is well packaged and the initial perception is of high quality. There are numerous bits that add on to the body that apparently make the removal of hair easier depending upon place or length. There is also a shaver head with clipper attachment set for I'd guess, a grade one if you were a geezer, plus a natty pair of illuminated tweezers which, both my wife and daughter found to be most interesting of all.

In use it works well from what I briefly found out and from a more extensive test from the females on their legs. The skin is left smooth and hair free very quickly. But it is painful and there is no getting away from that. It's better than the older units apparently and I'd put that down to the fact that it rotates the pullers very fast indeed even on the slower of the two speeds although is quite noisy in use. If the back of my hand is any consideration then it's not unbearable. My wife told me that many years ago when she got an early made unit in order to do her legs it normally took a couple of hours and a bottle of wine. This machine is much quicker and less of a torture apparatus than that.

The trimmer unit works well from all reports and does mean you ladies get two machines for the price of one.

It is of course a rechargeable machine which came pre-charged and so far has done both my daughters legs without needing to be topped up again

So it's works well from the reports I've had from the ladies in my life but can be a little painful in use. Also one has to bear in mind that the hairs to be removed have to be long enough to be gripped which means that you have to leave things alone for longer than you would normally. If you are in the market for this kind of item then all in my family seem to agree that this is a good little machine.

5.0 out of 5 Simply the best Epilator., 16th June 2010

Review By Mrs. Tina S. Hatchman "totalfruitycake" (Kent UK)

I have never ever used an epilator. Ive heard far too many horror stories so i just kept away from them. When i got this epilator i was very scared of using it!!!! I read the instructions and i charged it up. Then i sat for 5 minutes wondering if i should even atempt sing it. What a fool i was. Its so easy to use and so painless. I was worried it would hurt, but it didnt. Its so smooth to use. The attatchments make doing the under arm and bikini line a breeze.

Please buy this wonderful epilator. Its the best thing, and id never be without it.
